Improve Your Well-being in 2017.

Today marks the fourth Monday of 2017.  We are already three weeks into the new year and 21 days into our new year’s resolutions.  By now, gyms have emptied of their new members, nicotine patches have been consigned to the bin and flavourless rice cakes are demoted to the back of the cupboard.  These all serve as reminders of how every new year might begin with the best of intentions, but as the weeks pass by our resolutions atrophy and old comfortable patterns resume.

Habits take a while to form however.  Traditionally it was thought that it took 21 days to form a new habit although more recent research suggests it can take up to 66 days.  One habit that is worthwhile to develop is wellbeing and it might be simpler than you think.  Below are five activities that can promote wellbeing.  The good news is they are not as difficult to achieve as some of the aspirational activities such as losing weight, giving up smoking or getting fit.

The 5 Steps to Wellbeing are
Connect- Spend time with family and friends.
Be Active- Go for a walk, take part in a five a side.
Be Mindful- Try be more present in the now and avoid looking to the past or future too much.
Keep Learning- Learning new skills improves confidence.
Give to Others- Whether it be time or some small present giving makes you feel good.
